There was no shade at all on top of the levee, so I waited for a partly cloudy day. Some kids came up the gravel road barefooted to see what I was doing. "Is your car broken down?" they asked. I showed them my painting easel and canvas, and they checked back periodically along with their friendly pit bull dog. There was a little cotton left over below the abandoned irrigation lines, and pretty yellow flowers in the foreground.
