2024 - My Year of Slow Painting

Slow Painting?

I’m reclaiming my painting process. I’ve had enough. I’m rebelling.

Yes, I’m talking about social media. I’ve found it has increasingly taken over my creative process. The continuous need for engaging content has become time consuming and demanding. Not only did I feel pressured to post new content daily, I was always comparing my art to others and looking for ways to create better, more interesting posts.

By December I was exhausted. I needed a break and took one. I didn’t paint for almost a month and posted to social media infrequently.

New Perspective

Not only am I refreshed, but I’ve gained some perspective. I promised myself to no longer get caught-up in the madness of social media. I’m going to paint how I want and when I want. Most importantly, I’m going to paint for me, not an algorithm and I’m going to post less frequently.

I’m calling this contrarian quest ‘My Year of Slow Painting.’ In addition, I’ve thrown in two other challenges to make it really interesting, but more on those in my next blog.

Please join me as I post updates on my progress, trials and tribulations on this blog and more frequently on my Instagram stories.

Happy 2024
