Lamya Deeb is a nationally recognized, award-winning artist. Painting from life, she aims to capture the unique essence and beauty of a particular moment and place, and to share that magic with the viewer. Her still-life paintings likewise convey the soul of the subjects and poetic qualities of illumination.
Born in the U.S., Deeb grew up in Beirut, Lebanon, becoming a witness to that country's devastating civil war. Conversely, her family's extensive travels in Europe and the Middle East brought her face to face with the great art and scenic beauty of those regions. These experiences have had profound impact on her life and work.
With a degree in painting from Colorado State University, and a working background in illustration and design, Deeb has painted the landscape "en plein air" since 2006, and has studied with prominent artists in the landscape and still-life genres.
She currently lives in the charming small town of Niwot, Colorado. Her work is represented by Osmosis Gallery in Niwot and by Mary Williams Fine Arts in Boulder, Colorado.
Deeb is a member of and has shown with numerous art associations, including: Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters, Plein Air Artists Colorado, Pastel Society of Colorado, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, and Oil Painters of America.
Statement
Painting from life is my passion, whether it is out in the landscape en plein air, or in my studio with a still-life set up.
My work begins with a search for solace, reflection, and beauty in the world. Through immersion and observation, it becomes a journey of discovery— of the poetry of light, the gestures of trees, the breath of breezes, the depth of water, the unique and the universal.
My process involves being in the moment, observing, feeling and interpreting the story of the day—with playful choices and reverence—in the flow of luminous oils, and the tactile veils and sparks of pastels.
