In 2021, Katy began showing her abstract alcohol ink artworks publicly. Her award-winning artworks are in private collections from New York to California.
MessageKaty Bishop is a contemporary abstract painter based in Los Angeles. Her gestural abstract artworks are characterized by bold, expressive, and vibrant use of color. In addition, Katy is known for her use of alcohol ink in reverse painting on plexiglass and glass.
Katy began her artistic journey as a young teen in Chicago. Feeling the profound impact of “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” while in scholarship classes at Chicago’s Art Institute, she began studying various artists like Seurat, Richter and Helen Frankenthaler who inspired her to explore her own talents with perseverance and determination.
These artists would also be the starting point when she returned to her art after raising her family and a successful film production career. Over the years, her extensive practice and experimentation helped her create art that resonates with her voice.
Katy‘s two solo exhibitions with TAG Gallery, Los Angeles, were very successful. Her artworks have been in juried group exhibitions in other commercial galleries in Los Angeles, Costa Mesa, Chicago, Rome, Venice and many websites online.
Her work “TERRA FIRMA VII” has been awarded the Golden Award at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in 2023. Her abstract, PROPEL, recently won First Place – Abstract at the Betsy Lueke Gallery in “Rock.Paper.Scissors.Art” exhibition, jurored by Elizabeth Tucker, President of Women Painters West.
Katy Bishop is a member of The Los Angeles Art Association, the California Art League, the International Association of Art – USA and the Women’s Caucus for Art. Her work is represented by TAG Gallery, Los Angeles and MEGA Gallery, Rome and can be found in many private collections across the country.

Statement
In my journey as an artist, I paint what I feel, not what I see, capturing and embracing the spirit of the conversation.
My abstract artworks are created with alcohol ink on various surfaces. I explore the delicate balance between control and surrender as I guide the pigments. Sometimes it is simply to go with the flow.
It all begins with a concept and then I push, pull, blow, brush, dilute, squiggle, smudge, tilt, blot and use any other way to create with the ink.
The results are gestural abstracts that fuse elements of perception, randomness and control. For my works on plexiglass, I also embrace the challenge that comes when painting in reverse with a medium possessing a mind of its own.
