Karen Osborne studied the History of Art with practical fine art modules at De Montfort University, Leicester. After a career as a Creative and Art Director in the Stills photography industry, she re-established herself as a painter in her home studio in Surrey, UK in 2019.
Working largely in acrylic, she has developed a fluid semi-abstract style, and expressive mark making. Karen takes her main inspiration from nature in all it’s forms. Karen is a member of both the United Art Space and Louise Fletcher’s Art Tribe. She was longlisted in the 2023 VAO Art Prize, and was a finalist in the 2023 Women in Art Awards.
Statement
I am lucky enough to work in my garden studio, where I can get stuck in experimenting with a mix of media. The balance of line, mark and colour are my foundation and I am at my happiest immersed in new projects, exploring fresh media and techniques.
My work takes inspiration from the nature around me, from the beauty of UK gardens, to the wild sweep of our countryside and the coast. Vibrant colour and intense mark making inform my work, but above all, I hope to express my fascination with the beauty of our world.
