Along the Orange County coast, low tide reveals a hidden world—secluded sea caves carved slowly by time and water, places where the ocean has shaped quiet, cathedral-like spaces from stone. I remember playing in coves like these as a child, exploring the coastline and slipping between rocks, feeling as though I’d stumbled upon something secret and ancient.
Those early experiences left a lasting impression. Even now, these spaces still feel full of wonder. As an artist, I see them not just as curiosities, but as natural studios—temporary galleries where light and water work together to create something fleeting and beautiful. In Caves of Treasure Cove, I wanted to capture that moment of transformation, when the late afternoon sun filters through an opening and turns the water into glowing green glass.
Painting this scene, I focused on the contrast between shadow and light, on the way stone reflects warmth and water holds color. There’s a quiet energy in these spaces, a stillness that feels rare and precious—gone as quickly as it appears once the tide rises again.
