Laguna Beach has always held a unique creative energy for me. I remember walking the scenic path through Heisler Park, just above Main Beach as a child, watching painters at their easels completely absorbed in capturing the coastline. Even from an early age, I sensed a deep resonance with them - a quiet understanding of what it means to be an artist. I saw these creative souls absorbed in their passions, and I knew that this was a world I wanted to be part of. I began painting at a young age, taking lessons from my grandfather, painting alongside his more matured adult students. I knew I was just a child, but I also knew the spirit of art was within me, just as I know it is within Laguna.
Laguna continues to inspire me and draw me into her creative arms. There is a richness in the landscape of Laguna’s coastline that is unlike any other. The colors of the cliffs and sea, the way the flowers lean toward the light, the curve of the shoreline as it catches the afternoon sun - every fleeting moment spent in Laguna makes me want to pick up my brush and start painting.
In Laguna Light, I focused on the glow that the coastline takes on in the late afternoon. The warm sand, the deep blues of the water, the brightness of the air. This painting is born from both memory and longing, it speaks to the creative urge to respond to beauty when you see it, and the sense that nature and art are closely intertwined in a place like Laguna Beach.
