Started painting at 67 following a life of rock climbing. My art is inspired by my adventures.
MessageAfter a lifetime of rock climbing, mountaineering and general adventure I have accumulated a vast wealth of memories and photos of some wild places. I didn't, however, start painting until I was 67 after it was suggested by my friends Jim and Jo at Punch Street Studio in Sydney that I come to the gallery for a glass of wine. But it was a case of “no paint, no wine”. The fact that I had never painted before meant nothing - that was in April 2023. I have learnt a lot from Jim and Jo since then. Their suggestions and constructive advice have been invaluable. I am consistently reminded about the importance of tone.
Having Parkinson's is a journey on what sometimes can be a rough road. For me the road seems smoother when I am painting. And apart from the occasional unsteady hand it has become another a great way to relax.
There been much learning. Many paintings later, my enjoyment is obvious.
