August
The month has been hot and humid. The best way to avoid the heat is very early in the morning, but I am late today. The sun has been up for several hours making the air thick and heavy. No one else is here this morning and in the quiet, the sound of insects buzzing about my head is almost deafening.
The shade of the woods is a welcome refuge. The air is still and cool, scented with the fresh, musky smell of damp earth. The purple path jumps out against the green tangle of ground cover on the forest floor. Beams of light filter through the canopy and dance upon the ground illuminating a patch of brilliant green moss that covers a fallen tree.
