XXe Siècle: The publication XXe Siècle was the brainchild of Italian-born art historian Gualtieri di San Lazzaro (1904-1974). Each issue of the XXe Siècle magazines published included articles about the most influential artists of the twentieth-century and also included original lithographic prints by those very artists. The periodical was published intermittently between 1938 and 1974 (San Lazzaro’s death), for a total of about sixty issues. Well-connected in the Parisian art scene San Lazzaro commissioned original artistic contributions from the likes of Max Ernst, Marc Chagall, and Joan Miró.
