SIGNED ORIGINAL STUDY DRAWING FOR PENDLETON WOOLEN MILLS ADVERTISEMENT BY AMERICAN ARTIST EDWARD BURNS QUIGLEY (1895-1984)

This study drawing is for one of the fourteen drawings used by Pendleton Woolen Mills, an Oregon clothing manufacturer, as a series of advertisements run in national magazines and newspapers. Quigley signed himself “QUIG” on these drawings. Seven of the fourteen finished drawings used by Pendleton are pictured in the book “Ed Quigley Western Artist”, on pages 102 and 103.

Artist Ed Quigley is well known for his western paintings, illustrations, drawings and also wood carvings. This humorous study drawing, of a young cowboy on horseback whose rope on a calf is tangled around the horns of two head-to-head bulls, is an excellent example of the artist's creative process. The medium is pencil on cream paper, the image size measures 8 3/4 x 7 inches, the full sheet measures 10 7/8 x 8 3/8 inches, signed in pencil by the artist lower right: QUIG. The drawing comes unframed.
