UNTITLED [ ABSTRACTION OF FIGURE IN LANDSCAPE ], 1964 SIGNED ORIGINAL INK DRAWING BY AMERICAN ARTIST AND PRINTMAKER LOUIS DEMOTT BUNCE (1907-1983 )
This abstract ink drawing, with three compositions, is signed and dated in pencil by the artist lower right: Louis Bunce ‘64.
Artist Louis Bunce, considered a legend in Oregon Modernism, is well known for his abstract view paintings, illustrations, drawings and prints of cityscapes, seascapes and landscapes. Early drawings by the artist are quite rare and hard to find. This drawing, the subject of an abstract figure in landscape with subtle effects of light, space, and natural textures, is an excellent example of the artist's early work. The medium is ink on paper, the image size measures 12 3/8 x 5 3/4 inches (the compositions, from top to bottom, measure 3 7/8 x 5 1/2 inches, 3 5/8 x 5 3/4 inches, and 3 3/8 x 5 5/8 inches). The full sheet measures 14 3/4 x 10 3/4 inches. The drawing comes unframed.
