  • Artist: Josef Liesler (Czech, 1912-2005)

Josef Liesler was a Czech surrealist painter, graphic designer, illustrator, stamp and poster designer. He studied art at University of the Architecture and Structural Engineering, Prague in 1934-38 under professors Cyril Bouda, Oldřich Blažíček, and Josef Sejpka. He devoted himself to graphics, painting, drawing, illustration and stamp making. He received many awards for his work. Among the most important, for example, the UNESCO award for the most beautiful stamp of the year called the Hydrological Decade and the President of the Medal of Merit awarded in 2003.

Liesler was a member of the groups Seven in October, the Association of Fine Artists Mánes, the Association of Czech Graphic Artists Hollar and the group RADAR.
