More than any other nation, the origins of our American population come from everywhere on the planet. Our diversity is the thread that weaves us together in a distinctive cultural fabric. This work pieces together an international collection of antique and vintage maps spanning the globe across multiple timelines. Postcards, tickets and travel-related documents are also interspersed within the patchwork composition to spotlight individual moments and memories within our collective journey. American stamps are overlaid on top of the patches, reminiscent of how a passport book or steam trunk may get stamped to mark origins and destinations. Exclusively American stamps were selected to highlight our national identity independent of our international origins. Embroidered on to the canvas is a single star from a retired U.S. flag to honor the aspirations of what unifies us.
