Dark Passage was created in response to a recent experience in my life that brought me anger and sadness. I liken it to being on an unmoored ship of which I have no control and where I have no hope of landing on a safe shore. When I started this piece, I was at a low point, but as I began to draw, my despair began to lessen. The more I poured myself into my work, the better I felt. I am now safe on a shore with loving friends and family and have a greater belief in my powers as an artist and the importance of art as redemptive.
