Revisionism for Truth by Dellis Frank Image: In a world marked by the unsettling echoes of revisionism and the suppression of narratives, my artistic exploration serves as a defiant act against the erasure of history—particularly the lived experiences of Black individuals. Through my work, I confront the insidious forces that seek to rewrite, censor, and deny the profound richness of Black history.
In the face of book bans and the intentional obfuscation of historical truths, I wield my artistic voice as a weapon against the silencing of marginalized perspectives. My creations serve as a testament to the resilience, strength, and beauty of Black lives throughout time, transcending the constraints imposed by those who would seek to control the narrative.
Using a multidisciplinary approach, I strive to unveil hidden stories and reclaim the narratives deliberately suppressed by systems of power. The interplay of colors and the use of symbolic imagery shine light on the obscured history that yearns to be brought into the open, demanding acknowledgment and understanding.
The denial of lived experiences, especially those of Black individuals, is an affront to the collective memory of humanity. Each piece I create is a declaration that the truths of the past cannot be buried beneath the weight of denial. I invite viewers to engage with the discomfort of confronting historical omissions, urging them to question the motives behind the selective amnesia imposed on certain narratives.
My art is a call to action, an invitation to challenge the prevailing narratives that perpetuate ignorance and injustice. By visualizing the untold stories and celebrating the resilience of Black communities, I hope to contribute to a broader dialogue that dismantles the walls of revisionism and allows for a more inclusive and truthful understanding of our shared history.
Together, let us resist the forces of censorship and revisionism, fostering an environment where every voice is heard, every story is acknowledged, and the lived history of Black people is finally given the prominence and respect it deserves.
