Statement
I create representational, realist oil paintings that reflect my own experiences and I often describe my work as autobiographical. Using my traditional training and carefully considered compositions, I create colorful paintings that follow the trajectory of my life.
At home as a new mother, I painted self-portraits about pregnancy and the early stages of motherhood. During the times I needed rest, my work shifted to reflect a deep longing for calm and comfort. As my children grew, I found endless inspiration in their enthusiastic outlook on life and the joy they discovered in each day. Inevitably, I began to compare their childhood to my own and my work began to focus on our shared experiences across generations.
My work presents a female perspective of family, childhood and home while exploring the stages of life we progress through, our changing relationships with each other, and our evolving vision of ourselves. As I celebrate milestones and uphold family traditions, I have become more aware of the common threads that link me to the past and define who I am today.
My work is a visual journal, and my representational style enables me to create art that is immediately accessible, allowing me to share a perspective of womanhood and domestic life that is both relatable and deeply personal.
