While in Alaska, I was delighted to observe and sketch these endearing small birds at an outcrop on a cliff face where they nest. These extraordinary small birds lead a primarily maritime existence, except for when they nest. Couples worked together diligently to prepare their nests as I watched the puffins, which usually form lifelong pair bonds. It was a truly delightful sight to behold a flock of puffins taking flight, also known as a 'circus,' and a single chick is traditionally named a 'puffling.'
