High in the Beartooth Mountains of Montana, at approximately 11000 ft, where the cold and wind beat the trees and grasses, and snow often visits 12 months of the year, is a tundra ecosystem. The plants at this elevation are survivors and have adapted to harsh weather.
At the end of June, as the snow begins to melt, this place is stunningly beautiful with azure pools and streams, emerald grasses and bristlecone pine, against sharp contours of colorful granite outcroppings and purple mountain vistas. It is truly a palette of contrasts in texture and color.
