Once a year, I and a group of artist friends enjoy a weekend paint out in the Beartooth Mountains of Montana. We try to book this trip for August, after a freeze cleans out the mosquito population. One of our favorite spots to set up is a pull out on the Clarks Fork River that has a stunning view of the river, woods, and mountains. This group of trees stand near the clearing, where late day light illuminates the trio. Decades have seen these three compadres, standing together, rooted firmly against the elements.
