The European honey bee (apis mellifera) lives in highly organised and incredibly complex colonies where they work collectively for the survival of the hive. They form an integral part of the pollination process for many of our cultivated crops and natural landscapes. Colony activities are organized by complex communication between individuals, through both pheromones and dance language.
Inspired by my recent uptake of beekeeping, Pollinator is graphite pencil drawing paying homage to the individual worker bee. This artwork celebrates my renewed fascination with these beneficial insects, and the renewed sense of awareness, appreciation and connection with the natural world which has come from working with them.
