The Late Rohana King (Ché Nah)

Born in Singapore, Rohana King, known affectionately as Ché Nah, was a nurse by profession but an artist at heart. While Bajans may fondly remember her for her orchids, many will be surprised to discover her incredible talent for painting.

Her artistic journey, rekindled later in life, was deeply inspired by the beauty of Barbados. Driving across the island, she captured iconic locations like Codrington College and Gun Hill Signal Station, transforming her photographs into stunning pastel works—her signature medium. Ché Nah’s love of nature and her keen eye for light, color, and texture brought tender moments and vibrant landscapes to life.

She honed her skills under the guidance of Indrani Whittingham, a beloved art teacher who has nurtured many of Barbados’ artists. We honor Indrani’s contribution to the visual arts in Bim and celebrate Ché Nah’s legacy—a beautiful fusion of passion and island life.

Although she passed earlier this year, her spirit lives on through her paintings, a lasting tribute to her love for art and nature.
