Artist: Carl Blackman
From pencil to pixel, Carl Blackman’s eye has always been drawn to the human form and the spirit behind it.
At just nine, he sketched a portrait of his mother—and unknowingly began a lifelong journey into the visual arts. His true awakening came in 1979 with De PAM, where he absorbed the techniques of some of Barbados’ most powerful artists. That experience shaped more than just his art—it transformed how he sees the world.
Today, Carl’s lens captures what his pencil once did: emotion, soul, and the raw truth of his surroundings. Whether in graphite, oil, or vibrant island landscapes, his work is a layered conversation between drawing, painting, and photography—where classical form meets evolving Caribbean identity.
His passion hasn’t faded. It’s only grown.
