This painting started out abstract, with no real plan, but as I was moving the paint around with my hands, I suddenly saw the parting of the Red Sea inside of it, like the waters were parting before my eyes. That became what I worked towards, and I mixed in some sand to add a bit of texture. I wanted the waves to be big, imposing, like so many things we face. The little figure with his staff could not have split that sea. But God did, and He still parts waters so we can run straight to Him.

Exodus 14:21

”Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The Lord pushed the sea back by a strong east wind all night, turning the sea into dry land. The waters were split into two.”
