I believe the camera is a means of seeing mindfully—of becoming aware. To make a photograph is to open the self, and the camera, to receive light. Growing up in Baton Rouge, I learned to love Louisiana’s flowers, lakes, birds, and rivers, and when I visit now, I always spend time outside. In exploring with my camera the geometries, shadings, and textures found in nature, I hope to reveal what Gerard Manley Hopkins calls the “dearest freshness deep down things” and the beauty that Louisiana offers.
