The River Forth, one of Scotland's major rivers, meanders through Stirling in central Scotland. This meander loop is overlooked from Abbey Craig, an outcrop of volcanic rock north of the river. The outcrop is the site of The National Wallace Monument that honors Sir William Wallace, Scotland's National Hero. Across the river on another hill is Stirling Castle. Abbey Craig overlooks the place where Wallace scored a victory over the English at the Battle of Stirling Bridge which took place on September 11, 1297.
The freshwater river becomes brackish on its way eastward as it makes its way to the Firth (estuary) of Forth then to the North Sea. The image is framed with navy blue mat and blue frame.
