Western New York native Angelo DeFilippo, a self-taught artist, would be a “lost soul” without art – appreciating art, producing art, and experiencing art. Angelo’s introduction to art began at the age of eight when he took private painting lessons from Olivia McConnell who was a student of well-known New England artist Charles Burchfield. Under McConnell, Angelo discovered the world of color and it’s relationship to form. Additionally he studied under Joe Whalen who taught him the strength of contour drawing and composition.
Angelo’s extensive educational background manifests in his work. He studied art at the Columbus College of Art and Design, mathematics and philosophy at the University of Buffalo, architecture at the University of Florida, and architectural design at Boston Architectural Center. His schooling paired with his technique both invites and defies the observer’s instinct to categorize.
