Plate, 11 inches diameter. Brown transfer. The printed mark has a crown over a circle sitting on a bed of ribbons with the maker's name, Stonier, Hollinshead & Oliver, Hanley, Staffordshire, and the pattern name "Coburg." The partnership was short lived, followed by Stonier, Hollinshead & Co. in Hanley, 1889-1992. The pattern is cut into three large cartouches separated by narrow borders filled with zig-zag lines. The two outside cartouches are full of flowers and leaves while the center scene can vary on different pieces in the dinner service. This plate has a body of water in the center scene with a faint image of a mountain peak in the distance. The scene is surrounded by a flower and large leaf, a cattail plant and two butterflies overhead.

Upper Hanley Works, High Street. In 1875 Messrs. Hollinshead & Stonier, at that time of the Ranelagh Works, were joined in partnership by Mr. Holmes and removed to this manufactory where they carried on the business under the style of Holmes, Stonier and Hollinshead until 1882. Then it was changed to Stonier, Hollinshead and Oliver. Their productions are the more useful classes of earthenware and white granite for the home, American, Cape, and Australian markets.
