'Erika in Gesture II,' by James Cobb, Drawing
This framed 21" x 19" academic drawing by artist James Cobb, 'Erika in Gesture II,' captures a female model in a standing pose. Facing away from the viewer, the nude figure rests her arm on her lower back and her body is angled out. Cobb has used conte, pencil and charcoal on toned gray paper in this off-white matted and framed work. The frame is an ornate gold frame. Cobb, an academic realist uses live models to capture his figural studies and travels often to capture his vivid landscape images.
Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma for the last two decades. Until recently, he maintained a studio in Taos, New Mexico. His work is executed in oil when painting and charcoal and conté when drawing. He attempts to paint from life and hosts a life drawing session every Friday for artists around the state. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter from still-life, to landscapes, portraiture, and figures.
