Mid-20th century geisha doll representing Fuji Musume ('Wisteria Maiden'), holding a cascading white wisteria branch (fuji) over her left shoulder and wearing a traditional broad-brimmed hat. The neck and hands are covered with fabric. A standing paper lantern is placed beside her. These dolls were clearly intended for display rather than play: the fine quality of their silk garments and the carefully crafted stands on which they are poised suggest they were not produced as children's toys. Displayed on a lacquered wooden base and housed within a glass showcase.
