Mid-century Japanese Sato Cloisonné Enamel and Embossed Foil Ginbari bud Vase. For display use. It is reminiscent of the high Meiji era pieces and later Taisho cloisonne' (or shippo, as it was called in Japan.)
The artisan who decorated this vase used basse-taille (ginbari) in which artisans engrave or chase a low-relief pattern in metal. The metal is then covered with translucent enamel, enabling light to reflect from the relief pattern beneath it and creating a shimmering effect.
The vase has a high-shouldered ovoid form which has been finished in an emerald green color. The front of the piece features a colorful profusion of cloisonné flowers, including a large spray of plum blossoms and small white buds on long thin silvery-grey branches, and a bird. The foot and lip of the vase are rimmed in nickel silver bands.
On a small wooden stand.
