U.S. Army uniform jacket worn and owned by Dr. Earnest E. Gregory Jr.
Earnest E. Gregory Jr. graduated from Union Kempsville High School in 1968. From 1968-1971 he served in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War from 1969-1970. During his time of service, he won several awards including the Bronze Star, Air Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Description of garment:
Men’s Army jacket made of wool with 10 gold brass metal buttons. There are four brass buttons on the center front of the jacket, two brass buttons on the shoulder epaulettes, and one small brass button on each of the four pockets on the front of the jacket. The jacket has a peak lapel design and full-length sleeves. Topstitching is present along the collar edge, edge of the hem, pockets, and the center-front right and left edges. The jacket is a size 44L and the color of the jacket is Army green.
Tag at interior neck, just under the collar seam says “44L / 8405-01-185-6118”

2 gold “U.S.” lapel pins above notched collar.

Patches on jacket:
On upper right sleeve is a 1st Cavalry Division patch. The patch is made up of black and golden-yellow thread. Predominantly yellow with a black diagonal stripe at the center and a black horse head above the stripe.
Underneath cavalry patch on right sleeve is a chevron patch with three upward-pointing gold chevrons with black thread separating each chevron.
On upper left sleeve is a chevron patch with three upward-pointing gold chevrons with black thread separating each chevron.
