Silent Score by Dr. Vasundhara (Vasu) Tolia Image: This work is experimental through its fusion of diverse materials and its exploration of structure, rhythm, and meaning. I combined paint, collage, wood, fiber, and recycled canvas—each with distinct absorbency and texture—to test how light, transparency, and form could coexist on a single surface. The portrait, collaged on sheet music, was later offset and integrated with found and painted wooden inserts, creating tension between precision and spontaneity. Transparent burnt umber, red oxide, and green glazes unify the layers while altering perception through depth and reflection. The piece blurs the boundaries between painting and assemblage, representation and abstraction, emotion and geometry. It questions what lies between sound and silence, structure and freedom—allowing the viewer to sense a visual rhythm that is both constructed and felt. This interplay of intuition, experimentation, and material dialogue defines the essence of this work.
