After seeing an IMAX movie about the migration of the North American Monarchs almost a decade back, I’ve been fascinated with them and have made several paintings recently. The threat of their possible extinction affected me deeply. This painting depicts abstracted butterflies in rich red/pink hues, in many sizes and shapes. I made them intact, or show only half in outline or in very detailed wings. They are shown hovering as if on their flyway. This is all in my fantasy and rendered in vibrant colors without flowers to tell the story of their fantastic journey for survival.
This painting is a vibrant and dynamic abstract composition, primarily featuring bold reds contrasted against a light blue background. The dominant colors are vivid reds and pinks set against a soft, aqua blue background. There are also touches of yellow, purple, and darker blue throughout. The painting is composed of fluid, organic shapes that seem to flow and merge into one another. Some shapes resemble abstract flowers or birds, while others are more amorphous. There's a strong sense of movement in the piece, created by the swirling and curving lines and forms. This gives the painting a lively, energetic feel. The brushstrokes are visible, adding texture and depth to the work. Some areas appear more thickly painted than others. The red shapes are scattered across the canvas, creating points of interest throughout the painting. The largest red forms are positioned towards the edges, framing the central area. The style is abstract and expressionistic, with a loose, free-flowing application of paint. While abstract, the shapes and colors might evoke images of the wings of butterflies. Overall, this painting conveys a sense of joy and energy through its bold use of color and dynamic composition. It invites the viewer to interpret the abstract forms and find their own meaning within the vibrant chaos.
