Mal’s handmade book, Psalmodia Naturalis (in Xochitl, in Cuícatl), is an appropriation of the 1558–83 book of Psalms Pslamodia Christiana, written by Bernardino de Sahagun and the Tepepulco informants Martin Jacobita (Tlatelolco), Antonio Valeriano (Azcapotzalco), Alonso Begerano, and Pedro de San Buenaventura (Cuauhtitlan). Once forgotten, in part due to its removal from its native Mexico, the book has garnered interest over the last decade due to the digitization and accessibility of the version owned by the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University, Rhode Island.
