Shara Hughes' paintings often are interactions of experimentation of direct mixing of paint and color on the canvas, which creates bold texture and pattern. This smaller piece depicts ambiguous forms within a larger landscape of natural motifs. Distant mountains and the sun on the horizon look over the rest of the piece while simple forms that resemble natural images populate the rest of the image. Combining experimentation and mixing on the surface on the canvas, Hughes investigates the intersection of landscape and a lush imaginary world. The title may refer to the rising or setting sun on the border over the amorphous organic forms existing within this representational landscape.
