Porcelain plaques were popular in China in the Ming and Qing dynasties, sometimes blue and white, sometimes in polychrome enamels. The hue of blue during the Kangxi period and how the heaping of the color on porcelain is significant in the study of Chinese ceramics. These plaques were often framed in ornate carved wooden frames as standing table screens.

Gift of Dan McLawhorn, Class of 1970, and Robert J. Hazelgrove, Jr.
