Artist: William Walmsley (American, 1923-2003)
William Walmsley (1923–2003) was an American printmaker, inspired by art in Paris while serving in the military in Allied-occupied France. After returning, he pursued a fine arts degree in Alabama but moved back to Paris during his junior year to study at the Académie Julian. He also studied at the Art Students League in New York. In the 1960s, Walmsley began his lithography series "Ding Dong Daddy," which used the comedic, nihilistic character Ding-Dong Daddy to critique American culture and lampoon art culture.
