Artist: William Cordova (Peruvian, b. 1969)
Born in Lima, Peru, and later moved to Miami, Florida. Cordova also spent time in Houston, Chicago, and New York. Inspired by his constant moving, Cordova's work largely deals with ideas transition and displacement. His work, comprised of installations, drawings, and sculptures, all investigate the differing cultures, economies, and language of the different places he inhabits. His sculptures in particular utilize physical 'artifacts' of these locations, as they combine discarded materials and ephemera—such as old shoes, tires, and books. He graduated with a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996 and received an MFA from Yale University in 2004.
