  • Artist: William Cordova (Peruvian, b. 1969)

William Cordova (born 1969) is a Peruvian artist originally from Lima, Peru, who later moved to Miami, Florida. He has also spent time in Houston, Chicago, and New York, and his work explores themes of transition and displacement. Through installations, drawings, and sculptures, Cordova investigates the diverse cultures, economies, and languages of the places he has lived. His sculptures, in particular, incorporate discarded materials and ephemera such as old shoes, tires, and books, serving as physical artifacts of these locations. Cordova earned his BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996 and his MFA from Yale University in 2004.
