Artist: Walter Darby Bannard (American, 1934-2016)
American abstract artist. Born in New Haven, CT, on September 23, 1934, Bannard had an interest in abstract art from an early age. After graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy, Bannard enrolled in Princeton where he earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1856 and where he first became absorbed by painting. He experimented, and continued to experiment with new mediums and colors such as tinted gels and plymers, applied on canvas with squeegees and commercial floor brooms. He was a Color Field painter, a member of the Color Field movement, otherwise known as posterpainterly abstraction. 1989, he became chairman of the art depemartment at the University of Miami, and died on October 2, 2016 in Miami, Florida.
