Artist: 歌川(Utagawa) 広重(Hiroshige) (Japanese, 1797-1858)
Japanese painter and printmaker, born Andō Tokutarō in Edo, now Tokyo, in 1797 to a samurai family. He apprenticed in painting under Toyohiro of the Utagawa school and began signing his works under the artist name Hiroshige.He is known for his popular woodblock prints that portrayed travel art. His kacho-e works depicting birds and flowers were also hugely successful. His work was influential in Europe as well with Toulouse-Lautrec and Van Gogh drawing inspiration from his unique compositions and perspectives.
