  • Artist: Thomas Hart Benton (American, 1889-1975)

Modern American painter and muralist during the decades preceding World War II. Thomas Hart gained fame as a Regionalist painter and focused on people and culture of the American midwest. His work focused on themes of ordinary people and common lore. He also explored sound and music as a method of communication. His interest in sounds manifested in vernacular songs and instruments, as well as dialogues. Thomas Hart was also known for his claims against art critics and museums.
