Artist: Tavares Strachan (Bahamanian-American, b. 1979)
Bahamian contemporary conceptual artist. Strachan’s work lies at the intersection of art, science, and politics, deploying text and neon to define our current political and cultural moment. He received his BFA in Glass from the Rhode Island School of Design and his MFA in Sculpture from Yale University. His work has been exhibited worldwide including at Biennial, New Orleans; Biennale de Lyon, Lyon; Venice Biennale, Venice; MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge; Baltimore Museum of Art, Baltimore, Frye Art Museum, Seattle; among others. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Getty Research Institute Artist in Residence Scholar (2019-2020), Frontier Art Prize Recipient (2018), LACMA Art & Technology Artist Grant (2014), and the Tiffany Foundation Grant (2008). Strachan lives between Nassau and New York, and is represented by Marian Goodman Gallery, London and New York.
