Artist: Stanton MacDonald-Wright (American, 1890-1973)
American painter and educator. Macdonald-Wright studied at the Los Angeles Art Students League and later studied the color theory of optical scientists in Paris. His art is a mix of the vibrant color abstractions of Synchromism and a traditional, representational style. He founded the movement known as Synchromism, the first abstract art movement developed by an American artist. Later in his career, he began to focus more on filmmaking, writing, and teaching art history at the University of California. He is known for his murals for the Santa Monica City Hall and Public Library (1935).
