Artist: Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923-1997)
Celebrated artist of 1950s Pop Art movement. Known for mass-printed comic strips and ironic reproduction of benday dots used in printing comics. His painting restating mass-produced images altered notions of "readymade" and of a painter's process, style, and identity. Also known for landscape, in which he uses few lines to portray light and water, often using atypical materials such as painting on layered plexiglass.
