  • Artist: Romare Bearden (American, 1911-1988)

American painter. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, but raised in New York City, Romare Bearden spent the rest of his life creating art that reflected on the race disparities in his birthplace. His work often married the oil painting tradition with collage techniques and addressed what it felt like to be an African American or a slave in America.
