Artist: Nicola Poucette (French, 1935-2006)
French painter. Poucette began her painting career at sixteen years old, selling works at cafes in St. Germain des Prés and around Montparnasse. Her first solo exhibition was at La Maison de Lettres in Paris in 1952, followed by another at Urban Gallery in 1954. She published her first novel, Les Vraies Jeunes Filles, the following year. She also exhibited multiple solo shows in London and exhibited in the U.S. in New York, Dallas. and San Francisco (1958, 1962). Poucette became well known in Paris in the 1960's as she earned prestige at the Salon Comparasion, presented by the Musee d’Art Moderne, Paris. She had many impressive commissions such as the eight panels for Annabel’s in London, illustrations for Montesquieu’s Persian Letters, and 168 gouache works for a translation of The Thousand and One Nights.
