Artist: Mitch Epstein (American, b. 1952)
Epstein is an American photographer and pioneer of fine-art color photography. He studied at the Cooper Union, New York City; Rhode Island School of Design, Providence; and Union College, Schenectady. His work has been shown internationally and is held in numerous collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and Tate Modern, London. He is the recipient of many grants, including the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (2018) and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship (2002-2003). He has published numerous books as well as worked on several films as director, cinematographer, and production designer. He is currently based in New York City, where he lives with his family.
