Artist: Michael Mazur (American, 1935-2009)
American printmaker, painter, and sculptor. Mazur graduated from Amherst College (1958) and then studied at Yale University. His work deals with the figure and abstraction, and he was recognized first for a series of lithographs and etchings of inmates at a mental asylum. In his later years, he concentrated on large, lyric paintings, and has been influenced by Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and early Chinese paintings. He is known for his fluidity between media and working in abstract and representational imagery. He was instrumental in the revival of the monotype in 20th century art.
