Artist: Mel Pekarsky (American, b. 1934)
Best known for desert paintings and drawings. Attended School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Northwestern University. Influence from the Chicago figurative style led Pekarsky to incorporate figures in landscape. Over time, Pekarsky’s “figures” in his landscapes grew smaller and smaller, disappearing completely by the mid-1970’s. Began focusing on expressionism and pure landscape. Work has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Fogg Museum of Art at Harvard University, and many others.
